Great Western Railway Provides Last-Mile Sleigh Service to Windsor’s Winter Wonderland
Beloved holiday tradition brings Santa to Northern Colorado families
Windsor, Colo. December 20, 2024 – Great Western Railway (GWR), an OmniTRAX rail affiliate, successfully transported Santa Claus to Boardwalk Park in Downtown Windsor. For more than a decade, GWR has performed Santa’s last-mile sleigh service to the annual Windsor Wonderland community celebration.
“The communities we serve are more than partnerships, they are the places we call home,” said GWR General Manager Dallas Ramos. “It’s our honor to help spread holiday cheer and bring Santa to Northern Colorado.”
GWR’s fully refurbished 1898 Yellowstone Pullman Car received the honor of delivering Santa to the faithful audience of thousands eagerly awaiting his arrival. The historic rail car rumored to have carried legendary U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt is the same rail car that makes another fabled journey each year.
GWR and OmniTRAX employees and their families accompanied Santa on the trip and passed out train whistles and candy canes to the children in attendance. Windsor Wonderland turns Boardwalk Park into a wonderland of lights, food trucks, and holiday activities. Santa’s arrival on the Great Western Railway was followed by the annual Holiday Proclamation and tree lighting ceremony. The community event included a private tour of the Yellowstone rail car for the winner of the local food drive coordinated by the Town of Windsor.
