Kris Kringle to take a special car to visit Windsor Wonderland

Denver, Colo. – The Great Western Railway is proud to transport Santa Claus from the North Pole to Windsor, Colorado on the Yellowstone, also known as Car #1, as a special guest for the Windsor Wonderland Festival starting at noon on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Santa will arrive in Downtown Windsor at Boardwalk Park, 5th and Ash Street, and visitors will be treated to photos, a tree lighting, horse drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and more.

“The Town of Windsor, the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Development Authority are proud to announce the 4th Annual Windsor Wonderland, our family-oriented celebration of the arrival of Santa Claus. A special thanks to Great Western Railway for helping to bring Santa to town in style,” said Kelly Arnold, Town Manager of Windsor.

“Our entire extended railroad family is delighted to play a part in bringing Santa to Windsor. We understand from several senior elves that Santa is really looking forward to the train trip and to meeting everyone in town, especially good girls and boys,” said Matt Despos, Divisional Manager for the Great Western Railway.

The Yellowstone is a Pullman-type car built in 1898 for James J. Hill, a pioneer in the development of U.S. railroads and a president of the Northern Pacific Railroad (now part of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe). The Yellowstone also was used by Teddy Roosevelt, who rode in it during the whistle-stop tours of his election campaign. It was restored by Great Western Railway Company employees in 1989 and 2014 to its original specifications with mahogany interior and carpeted floors.
