The Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railway, LLC (“BRG”) is a short line railroad, organized for the purpose of providing exclusive common carrier rail transportation to all facilities located within the Brownsville Navigation District of Cameron County, Texas. The Railroad is operating on behalf of the Brownsville Navigation District, under separate management and control from the District. All traffic is being interchanged with the Union Pacific Railroad at the Olmito yard. Interchange with the Mexican Railroad carrier KCSM is done via an intermediate switch with UP at the Brownsville & International Matamoros Bridge.
BRG operates 45 miles of line at the Port of Brownsville, and interchanges with Union Pacific and KCSM. BRG traffic includes steel, agricultural products, food products, and general commodities. The BRG commenced operations in 1984 when the Brownsville Navigation District (BND) reclaimed Port railroad operations from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The BND, which manages the Port of Brownsville, entered a 30-year agreement with OmniTRAX to operate and expand the business development capabilities of the Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railway on its behalf in June of 2014. The Port of Brownsville currently has 40,000 acres of land available for development.
GEOTRAC Industrial Hub is the result of a strategic relationship between the Port of Brownsville and OmniTRAX. Both organizations are collaborating to build an economic epicenter that leverages the vibrant energy of the region to create America’s most outstanding large-scale, heavy-industrial, rail and port served industrial park. The land is well-suited for light and heavy manufacturing, logistics, energy services, technology development and export/import warehousing. For more information go to: www.geotracindustrialhub.com.
